Easter 2014

This year we celebrated Christ's resurrection with Owen's first Easter egg hunt! Nana put some eggs around the yard and Owen had a great time collecting them and putting them in his bucket. After finding all the eggs, we trekked over to "Super" Nana and Papa's house for a delicious Easter dinner! It was a great day and a great celebration of the risen King!

Time Flies!

After a long hiatus, I plan to get back to blogging! Having two young children takes a lot of work and a lot of time! (Who knew? Lol!) But things seem to be getting a little more predictable so hopefully I can keep up with the blog!

Avery Ann has arrived!

Our beautiful baby girl, Avery Ann, came into the world fast and fierce on March 14th. We had an induction scheduled for Saturday morning at 6:30 so Friday night we had dropped Owen off at John and Linda's to spend the night and watch the Cyclone game. On our way home around 8:30 pm, I told Tyler I was having tummy issues but thought it was just something I had eaten! We got home and I went straight to the bathroom (secretly cursing Linda for making a somewhat spicy meal that night! Lol!) After some time, Tyler and I realized this was more than tummy troubles and called First Nurse. She eventually determined that I was in fact in labor and would let the hospital know I was on my way. I had told Tyler that we needed to time the contractions (now that we knew they were actually contractions!) so we could tell the midwife when we got to the hospital. They were about 3 or 4 minutes apart lasting about 1 minute. After a fast car ride, we got to the hospital about 10:10 pm. Avery was born at 11:01 pm!! I was at the hospital less than an hour before she was born! (Needless to say, I didn't get the epidural I had been wanting!)  Many of the nurses told me that if we decide to have another child, I need to head to the hospital right away. Tyler assured them that wasn't in our plans ;) She weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 20" long. She is beautiful and a blessing! We had a few rough first days but after determining that something in my breast milk didn't agree with her and switching to formula, she has been so content and sweet! Owen is so good with her! He is still a little hesitant to touch her (which is probably good!) but is so gentle with her when he does! They are so cute and I can't wait to see them grow up together! I know it will go so fast! Thanks to all who have been praying and please continue to pray for God's guidance and wisdom for Tyler and I to raise these two sweeties to know and love Jesus!

Owen's 1st Birthday!

Owen turned 1 year old on January 20th. That went fast!! It is amazing that it's been a whole year since he was born but fun to see how he's grown. He brings such joy and laughter to our lives. We are grateful everyday for the blessing God has given us in Owen. We were lucky to celebrate his birthday with family and friends. He got more presents than he needed but loved them all! Owen got his first taste of cake. He loved it but wasn't exactly sure what to do with it! (I will attach a video on another post.) Thank you so much to all who have helped and supported us this first year! Owen (and us) are lucky to have you in our lives!

 

Now that Owen is 1 he can...

-walk backward (it's pretty funny because he thinks it's hilarious)

-he's got a pretty good arm and can throw really well (likes to throw Buddy's ball to him)

-loves to dribble and "shoot" his basketball

-he has 8 teeth (and uses them to eat a lot!)

 

Hmm...I'm sure there is lots more but he had quite a list at 11 months and I can't think of what else he can do that I didn't list then! :)

Christmas 2013

We have the luxury of having most of our family close, but that makes for a lot of Christmases to attend! This year just happened to be Owen's first Christmas as well! We had a lot of fun but all of us were pretty exhausted after all was said and done! (It doesn't take much with an 11-month old and a pregnant mama!) We celebrated with both extended family and immediate family but the furthest we had to drive was Ames! We received and gave away presents but Christmas is about the ultimate gift. The Savior of the world was born. He was fully God but came to earth to die a painful death so that I may overcome death through my belief in Jesus Christ.  I know it is easy to get caught up in gifts, traditions and schedules (I do too!) but we need to stay focused on the real reason we celebrate Christmas!
